Philological faculty of Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky is more than twenty years. During this time, the faculty released more than two thousand full-time students. Together with graduates of correspondence course and masters are almost four thousand.
Graduates of the faculty work at schools, lyceums, colleges, technical schools of different regions of Ukraine, and those who are inclined to scientific research continue to do their graduate and postgraduate studies. The faculty cares about the training of its own personnel of higher qualification. The vast majority of teachers of the philological faculty are its graduates of different years. As of 2015-2016(academic year), the faculty employs fifty-seven instructors, thirty-eight of them have academic degrees and titles, and two lectures are Doctoral candidates.
In the first academic year (1993-1994) the faculty was headed by the Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Anatoliy Maksymovych Naumenko. From the next academic year till 2015 the faculty was headed by the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Lyubov Yakovlevna Dergal. In April, 2015 the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Tetyana Mykhailivna Sharova was appointed the acting Dean of the Philological Faculty. Since September 1, 2015 the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Tetyana Vasylivna Konovalenko has been the Dean.
Educational process and research work are provided by the teachers of four departments:
- English Philology and Methods of Teaching English;
- German Philology;
- Ukrainian Language;
- Ukrainian and Foreign L
Capable and talented youth studies at the faculty, some students beginning from the first year of studing are interested in scientific work. They have the opportunity to make their first steps in science during the teacher’s and student’s sessions at the Melitopol State Pedagogical University and conferences that are held at our university and other educational institutions of Ukraine. Students of the faculty are regular participants and multiple winners of various rounds of the All-Ukrainian competition of experts of the Ukrainian language named after Taras Shevchenko and Peter Jacyk, the All-Ukrainian competition of student’s scientific works.
- specialty “Language and Literature (English, German; German, English)”: Theoretical and practical courses of English and German languages, History of Foreign Literature, Ukrainian language, History of Ukrainian Literature, Pedagogy, Psychology and other general educational disciplines;
- specialty “Ukrainian language and literature. Language and Literature (English or German) “: Theoretical and practical courses of the Ukrainian language, History of Ukrainian Literature, History of Foreign Literature, Theoretical and practical courses of English and German languages, general education disciplines;
- specialty “Ukrainian language and literature”: Theoretical and practical courses of the Ukrainian language, History of Ukrainian Literature, Arts and Crafts, History of Fine Arts, History of Theatrical Art, general educational disciplines.
The faculty has a master’s degree in such specialties: “Ukrainian Language and Literature”, “Language and Literature (English)”, “Language and Literature (German)”. Departments, which carry out preparation of masters-philologists, have highly qualified personnel, modern laboratory and research bases. During the study period, students undergo a scientific and practical internship, production and pre-diploma practice, which assist in the preparation of master’s thesis work in the specialty.
Students-philologists are active participants of faculty and general university festivals and competitions, literary and musical evenings devoted to creativity of literary and art workers. The favorite of all students and lecturers is the faculty team of KVN (Club of the Cheerful and Sharp-witted) “Filkina Gramota”.
